Common questions

About SiftId scoring.

How do I know if my business idea is good?

A good business idea solves a real, specific problem for an identifiable audience, has a credible path to revenue, and is different enough from existing solutions that customers will actually switch. SiftId evaluates ideas across five weighted dimensions (problem validity, market opportunity, differentiation, feasibility, monetization) and gives you a calibrated 1 to 9 score so you can compare your ideas honestly instead of falling in love with the first one.

What makes a viable startup idea?

Viability comes from the intersection of a real problem, a reachable audience willing to pay, a differentiated solution, and a team that can actually build it. Most founder ideas fail not on execution but on a weak answer to one of those four questions. SiftId's rubric is built on frameworks from Y Combinator, Paul Graham, Peter Thiel, Sequoia, and the Lean Canvas so the evaluation is grounded in how real investors think about opportunity.

How can I validate a business idea for free?

The fastest free validation is talking to 5 to 10 people in your target audience and seeing if they describe the problem in their own words before you pitch your solution. SiftId is the zero-cost first filter before that: score the idea here, address the weakest dimension the rubric flags, then go talk to humans. It will not replace customer discovery, but it will save you from spending a week on an idea with a fatal flaw.

What score does a good business idea get on SiftId?

Most ideas score 5, which is correct. The median founder idea is not obviously broken, but it is not obviously strong either. A score of 6 means there is something promising worth exploring. A 7 or 8 means three or more dimensions are genuinely strong and the idea is worth serious investment of time. Fewer than 10% of ideas score 8 or higher. The maximum is 9 because there is always uncertainty.

Why does SiftId score out of 9 instead of 10?

Because there is always uncertainty. A 10 implies perfection and perfection does not exist in early-stage ideas. Capping at 9 forces calibrated honesty and prevents the grade inflation you see on every other AI idea evaluator. It is the same reason expert judges rarely give 10s in any scored competition.
